Why We Love: The iPhone 5

Why We Love: The iPhone 5

It was five years ago when a company redefined what the mobile space would become. With its sleek body and smooth interface, it would cast off conventional design and reenergize a content industry. We of course are speaking of Apple and the iPhone. A lot has changed since the original iPhone and on September 12th Apple unveiled to the world its’ newest version, iPhone 5. To many it may be just a phone, but for others it’s a symbol of innovation and design. This month, we would like to feature the iPhone and why we love it.

Hardware:

With each version, the iPhone has gotten thinner, lighter, and faster than its predecessor.  The newest version is just 7.6 millimeters thin and weights just 112 grams; 20% lighter and 18% thinner then the iPhone 4s. This little phone packs a big punch with an A6 chip which is 2x faster than the A5 chip and 22% smaller.  It also sports an 8MP iSight camera with sapphire crystal surface and nano-sim card for shooting and storing amazing panorama photos. Its new casing is made entirely of Aluminum and Glass giving it a unibody feel, resembling the Mac Lineup.  The biggest and most notable change is the 4-Inch Retina Display. Though the Retina Display was featured in the iPhone 4 and 4S, it now features a 44% boost in color saturation and is 9 millimeters taller to take full advantage of widescreen HD movies.  It received a boosts in network performance with a new LTE chip. LTE is the next generation cellular network and with it may bring download speeds up to 100mbps from mobile providers such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

Software:

Apple released the new version of iOS6 and put together a great lineup of software to take full advantage of those new specs. The new Maps App gives you turn-by-turn navigation, vector based maps for fast viewing, and 3D flyovers for exploring major metropolitan areas. Updates to Siri bring more integration into Facebook and Twitter as well as integration into some 3rd party apps, so you’re never too far from your personal assistant. iSight lets you take advantage of the new camera for taking stunning panoramas and recording 1080p HD video.  The new passbook brings organization to flight information, gift cards, and movie tickets. And this just scratches the surface over 200 new features of iOS6.
